‘The Graduates of 2020’ book jacket wrapped around the Young Designer publication unfolds into a Poster which
uses data visualisation as a tool to depict the variety of categories that the 2020 Graduation Projects fall under.

Theme : Impressions & Impact

The publication was designed in adherence to the 2020 Convocation theme, focusing on Impressions and Impact.

The concept was evolved to promote the 8 thematic clusters of: design comforts, design imagines, design improves, design simplifies, design informs, design enables, design influences and design provokes. These clusters categorized the nature of the imprints left behind by various projects.

Design Rationale

Dust Jacket as Poster: Driven by the goal of having the publication serve
as more than a mere information database, the dust jacket was designed to unfold into a Poster that could then serve as a ‘momento’ or ‘keepsake’ for
the graduating designers, mentors and readers.

Data Visualisation for Thematic Clusters: The poster was designed as
an artefact to represent distribution of the projects under each thematic cluster, lay out a brief for each of the assigned thematic clusters and
reflect the broader project trends for the year.

On folding both sides of the poster inwards, the edges of the poster
were designed in a way to highlight and compare the graduation projects
of Bachelors & Masters students based on their thematic cluster categorizations. Similarly, the right edge fold showed the trends in
projects based on clustering as per the discipline of the designers.

Blind Embossed Book Cover: On unfolding the poster jacket, the book cover was designed as a solid colour page with its design details being given a blind embossed treatment. The subtlety of this treatment was implemented as a nod to the imprints and ‘impressions’ that design & designers have left behind during the course of their journey.
